September Events in Wine Country

The seasons are about to change; you can feel it in the cool night air.  Fall is coming to Wine Country and serving up a number of events the whole family can enjoy.  From concerts to brewfests, antique faires to blues festivals, the events scene is in full swing in Sonoma County.

Savor the last few weeks of Summer with a lazy day! Splish-splash by the pool under rays of sunshine paired with laughter & smiles! Join us over the holiday weekend for a line up of games, activities, mid-day BBQ’s and events that will entertain the entire family! Dive into the Labor Day poolside festivities and win cool prizes at the same time! We will also have BIG surprises for both days (hint- inflatable amusement for the whole family).

Spa Meditation Retreat – September 6
This meditation retreat is a well-crafted day weaving meditation, spa experiences, connection and quite time in nature in the sanctuary of 6-acres of secluded creekside meditation gardens. More information can be found here.

Kenny G & George Benson – The Breezin’ and Breathless Tour – September 8
One of the most iconic and best-selling instrumental musicians of all time, saxophonist Kenny G is known the world over for his signature smooth jazz sound. He is joined on tour by ground-breaking jazz guitarist and singer songwriter George Benson, whose 1976 album Breezin’ was certified triple-platinum, hitting no. 1 on the Billboard album chart in 1976. Wine Country Nature and Optics Festival – September 9
The 6th Annual Wine Country Nature and Optics Festival features fauna, flora, and fine art! The largest nature festival in Northern California, it’s a family friendly event with 60 nonprofit nature organizations and artists represented. See live bats, bees, and birds! Corporate binocular and spotting scope exhibitors will be giving demonstrations and selling merchandise – Swarovski, Zeiss, Leica, Nikon, Pentax, Opticron, Celestron, Kowa, Manfrotto, Hawke and Out of this World Optics. Russian River Jazz and Blues Festival – September 9, 10
The annual Russian River Jazz & Blues Festival is back at Johnson’s Beach in Guerneville. Enjoy this two day, outdoor music festival surrounded by the beauty of the Russian River and towering redwoods. More information can be found here.

Marin French Cheese 3rd Annual Summer Picnic – September 10
Join Marin French Cheese for a delectable, fun-filled day on the idyllic premises of Marin French Cheese Company’s “Cheese Factory,” just 10 miles west of Petaluma. Local food and beverage purveyors will sample and sell their products. More information can be found here.

Petaluma River Craft Beer Festival – September 16
Join the fun as 23 North Bay breweries showcase their craft beer specialties along Petaluma’s historic riverfront at the annual Petaluma River Craft Beer Festival. Sip local brews, taste delicious bites from Petaluma restaurants, and enjoy live music! More information can be found here.

Kid’s Night Cookout at the Museum – September 16
Drop the kids off for after-hours fun at the Schulz Museum as they cook their own hot dogs and roast marshmallows. Kids will have the Museum all to themselves to cook, create, and cartoon. Sonoma Valley Uncorked – September 17
Enjoy hand crafted wines produced by amateur wine makers in Sonoma Valley at this vine-to-wine tasting experience in the heart of Wine Country. Proceeds from the event fund programs and materials for outreach by the Sonoma Valley Mentoring Alliance and Kiwanis of Sonoma Plaza.  More information can be found here.

Fall Antique Faire – September 24
“The Bay Area’s Premier Antique Center,” Historic Downtown Petaluma will transform into an antique marketplace. The event has a nice variety of estate jewelry, linens, furniture, art, kitchenware, vintage décor, books and all kinds of unusual collectables to suit everyone’s budget.  More information can be found here.

Levi’s Granfondo – September 30
Rolling through the streets of Santa Rosa and into the golden hills of Sonoma County’s coastal mountains, Levi’s GranFondo is both a challenging and competitive mass start cycling event hosting riders of all ability levels from around the world. More information can be found here.

August Events in Wine Country

It’s summertime in Wine Country.  The weather is hot and so is the events scene.  August offers a number of events the whole family will enjoy;  from outdoor movies to evening dinners, fairs to festivals, summer is in full swing in Sonoma County.

SHED Supper: Southern Cooking – August 1
Southern Cooking! The August SHED Supper will be a celebration with gumbo, okra, and the best of Cajun cooking, featuring local farmers, winemakers, and visiting chefs. Dinner is served family style and seating is casual, so come with your family, bring a neighbor and make new friends! Sonoma County Fair – August 3 – August 13
The Sonoma County Fair returns to Wine Country.  Get ready for snow in August, a Mardi Gras parade, Talk like a Pirate day and more at the Sonoma County Fair, August 3 – August 13! The Hall of Flowers floral design theme will be “Holidays in Bloom”, in conjunction with the Fair’s 2017 theme “Holidaze at the Sonoma County Fair.”  More information can be found here.

Arrowood is within the Jackson Family Winery portfolio and located in the heart of Sonoma Valley. This area is described as a warm pocket in a cool region making it perfect for Cabernet Sauvignon, Arrowood’s signature wine. Mayacama Members are invited to join us on Friday, August 4th for a tasting and a fun evening.

Petaluma Music Festival – August 5
The Petaluma Music Festival offers a variety of music for people of all ages, as well as fine beers, premium wine tasting, and specialty food vendors. This non-profit festival benefits the music education programs in all Petaluma area schools.  More information can be found here.

NorCal Brew Fest – August 5
The popular NorCal Brew Fest will be held during the Sonoma County Fair! Sonoma County has become known as a premier beer destination as well. Breweries and cideries in the United States are invited to celebrate our local love of beer while enjoying unlimited tastes of over 50 beers and ciders. More information can be found here.

Bounty of Sonoma County Dinner – August 12
Experience a celebration of Sonoma County agriculture with an alfresco dinner party in Healdsburg’s Jordan Winery that brings the region’s greatest culinary treasures to your plate. More information can be found here.

Drive-In Movie – Ferris Bueller’s Day Off – August 19

Sonoma County’s Blues and Arts Festival – August 19
The 19th SOMO Concerts invites you to a day long pop-up festival filled with nationally acclaimed Sonoma grown blues and a beautifully curated fine art gallery.  More information can be found here.

*Mayacama Members* Private KJ Event: Tomato Festival, Saturday, August 19 from 2:00 -5:00 pm
Kendall-Jackson has sadly decided to discontinue their annual Tomato Festival after 20 successful years. However, the private event for Mayacama Members lives on! The great folks from the Jackson Family Wine Estates will host up to 40 of our members for our own private afternoon.

Begin with a tour of the gardens, featuring fresh fruits and vegetables from all over the world. The gardens are tended by Tucker Taylor, formerly of the Master Gardener at the French Laundry. Taste tomato inspired dishes created by KJ’s personal chefs along with artisan pizza from their wood-burning oven, located in the garden. Pair their creations with wines from the Jackson Family Estates while relaxing or strolling through the garden.

Mayacama Members are invited to join us on Saturday, August 19 from 2:00 to 5:00. Attendance is limited to the first 40 members who sign up. Shuttle service will be available by reservation only.

Movies in The Plaza – Finding Dory – August 22
Head to The Plaza in Healdsburg for the final movie event of the summer.  August’s Movie will be family-friendly, Finding Dory. The movie will begin at 8:45, following the Tuesday evening concert. Reminder that Movies in the Plaza are alcohol free events. Free popcorn for the whole family! More information can be found here.

Movies on the Green – Disney’s Beauty & the Beast – August 26
Grab a picnic blanket and enjoy a summer’s evening on Weill Lawn as the Green Music Center screens a double-feature of Disney’s two versions of the classic tale, Beauty and the Beast.  More information can be found here.

Healdsburg Antiques and Arts Fair – August 27
The annual summer Antiques and Arts Fair in the historic Healdsburg Plaza will boast over 80 vendors, artists and craftsmen displaying their treasures and artistry. Visit nearby art galleries, boutiques, and tasting rooms and dine in one of the towns many popular restaurants.  More information can be found here.

*Mayacama Members* Sip ‘N Swing & Dinner, Friday, September 1 from 4:00 pm – 8:30 pm
Join us for this fun, casual golf event which is open to Social Members and guests too. Our Sip ‘N Swing event begins with a 4:00pm shotgun start, followed by a dinner buffet on the Dining Room Terrace. The format for this event is a six-person, 9-hole scramble. Make your own team of six or sign up individually and we will pair you with a group. Participants will enjoy specialty cocktails, ice cold beers and sip summer wines on several of the holes. Even if you aren’t able to play in the Sip ‘N Swing, make plans to meet up with the players and enjoy a fun dinner with your fellow members.
