7 Nearby Spots to Visit this Summer

With the wonderful weather of Wine County, it seems like summer is nearly a year-round joy and the fun stretches full into fall.  Whether you decide to spend the day outdoors in the cool water splashing in the sun, or singing a song of summer with a live music concert, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Here are seven suggestions of nearby summer fun.

Healdsburg Plaza. Browse the restaurants, go shopping, antiquing, wine tasting or enjoy a cooking class. Whether shopping for the home and family, or for gifts, there are boutique clothing shops, antiques and collectibles, hand-crafted jewelry stores, bed and bath shops, fine furniture stores and unique art galleries.

Safari West. Experience an African adventure in the heart of wine country. Guests may explore the Sonoma Serengeti on an African wildlife safari alongside romping herds of exotic wildlife or relax in a luxury safari tent under the gaze of a graceful giraffe.

Charles Schultz Museum. Housing the largest collection of Peanuts strips in the world, the Museum explores the art and nuances of Schulz’s craft. View original comic strips, learn about the art of cartooning and Schulz’s role in its development, view a re-creation of Schulz’s art studio, and draw your own cartoons in a hands-on education room.  An added bonus is that adjacent Snoopy Home Ice skating rink is a great way to beat the heat on those warm summer days.

Calistoga. Enjoy hot springs, cool wines at wineries, spas, restaurants, arts and events. Restaurant choices include just about everything from haute cuisine – with a relaxed Calistoga twist, of course – to Authentic Southern BBQ. Explore downtown shops and art galleries; bike or hike the area. The stunning surroundings work their magic as soon as you arrive. Relax….you’re in Calistoga!

Windsor Town Green. Join the Town of Windsor as they celebrate its 25th Anniversary with the Annual Summer Nights on the Green Concerts every Thursday through August 31. The Thursday Live Concerts feature free bicycle valet parking, food vendors, food valet, free family lawn games, and a Windsor Certified Farmers Market.

Guerneville. This small tourist town is situated between the Russian River and the surrounding hills with dining, shopping, activities, entertainment and more. Whether you fancy canoeing, kayaking, tubing or sunbathing, you can play on the Russian River at Steelhead Beach Regional Park. Head to Main Street and stop in at the 5 & 10 for some old fashioned candies or walk downtown Guernville and stroll across the historic bridge.

Green Music Center. The GMC Summer 2017 is comprised of 15 concerts on the stage of Weill Hall + Lawn, featuring some of the biggest names in blues, soul, hip-hop, country, jazz and mariachi. Whether you’re bringing your picnic basket and blanket to sit on our beautifully landscaped lawn, or getting front row seats inside the unparalleled Weill Hall, you’re sure to enjoy your Summer at the Green!
