Looking for a local microadventure that is sure to be a hit with the entire family? Then head to Napa for an adventure at Oxbow Public Market, the local gathering place for great food and wine in downtown Napa and throughout the Napa Valley.
The brainchild of Steve Carlin, who was responsible for planning and overseeing the initial operations of the famed Ferry Building in San Francisco, Oxbow Public Market boasts a 40,000 square foot marketplace and features local food vendors, artisan cafes and an organic produce outlet for local farms. The facility also includes outdoor dining as well as a scenic outdoor deck with seating along the Napa River.
The artisans and purveyors at Oxbow Public Market passionately support the concept of local harvest and sustainable agriculture, creating an atmosphere within the market to improve the local food culture through education, community outreach and support of local businesses and farms. The marketplace consists of 22 merchants, each independently owned and operated.
It’s easy to spend hours exploring Oxbow Public Market, so we have listed a few of the many ways to get you started on your microadventure:
Grab a fresh brewed coffee at Ritual Coffee Roasters and cinnamon morning bun at the Model Bakery to start your day. They also offer a “late bake” – an afternoon bake of signature breads for consumer purchase and to supply the region’s best restaurants. You’ll see why the Model Bakery is well known as the Napa Valley’s hometown bakery.
Explore the dizzying array of fresh ground spices at Whole Spice, with custom blends of spices you won’t find anywhere else. From the usual to the exotic, allspice to vanilla and ajowan to zhug, Whole Spice has more than 300 different spices and 50-60 blends available, both bulk and pre-packaged, and all in small quantities to ensure freshness.
Delight in the amazing selection of charcuterie at The Fatted Calf, with a unique selection of artisanal food products from California and Italy hand selected for the shop, as well as a delicious daily lunch menu. Stop in and sample some salumi, beans, pasta, vinegar or fresh cuts and taste the difference.
If you find yourself interested in a sit-down dining experience, there are many options. Enjoy wood-fired deliciousness from Kitchen Door or Ca’ Momi Enoteca, a savory burger from Gott’s Roadside or treats from the sea at the Hog Island Oyster Bar.
Satisfy your sweet tooth and indulge in the marvelous assortments of fine truffles, rich creams and caramels, brittles and chews from Anette’s Chocolates. Not feeling like chocolate? Enjoy a fresh baked cupcake at Kara’s Cupcakes or an inconceivably delicious and organic ice cream at Three Twins Ice Cream.
