Looking for a great way to cool off this summer? Then head to the beach and take some surfing lessons. Whether you are new to surfing or just want to improve your skills, Stinson Beach Surfing Camp is the place to be. Stinson Beach is just over 60 miles from Maycama and boasts some of California’s best surfing.
Owned and operated by Tommy Glavey, a life-long waterman, the surf camp provides instruction geared toward your skill level. From newbies to advanced riders and everything in between, they offer you and your family an opportunity to enjoy this incredible sport all set to the majestic beauty of the Marin coast.
Group and private lessons are available. All gear is provided and includes surfboards, leashes, and wetsuits. All you need to bring is yourself, a towel, sunscreen and some water to drink. Lessons are scheduled based on mutual availability.
Surf Camp for Kids. The surf school offers children and teenagers, ages 6-17 years old, summer surf camps where attendees gain lifelong positive memories and meet new friends all while learning water skills. The camp welcomes all skill levels as many repeat surfers return every year.
The experienced staff of local Marin surfers and lifeguards have years of open water experience and take students step by step into surfing in a safe environment. Their overall mission: teach fundamental skills to help create knowledgeable surfers to keep surfing safe and fun for everyone! All staff is CPR and First Aid trained, and there is always a Certified Ocean Lifeguard on duty during camp sessions. General student to staff ratio is four to one (4:1).
So what can you expect at summer surf camp? In the mornings surfers will stretch, warm-up and surf for about two hours. After surfing, camp attendees will eat lunch and relax in the shade. Before heading out again, they play beach games (soccer, football + more) for about thirty minutes, and once everyone is ready, the campers all go surf and swim for another two hours. Camp includes everything surfers will need including trained professional surf instructors, soft foam surf boards, wetsuits, rashguards, bottled water and camp t-shirts. Campers should bring their own lunch or money for lunch. All the details can be found on their website.
If your surfer is hungry after camp, there are a number of local dining spots which capture the flavor and spirit of Stinson Beach. Some of the local favorites are Parkside Snack Bar, Siren Canteen, Breakers Café and Sand Dollar Restaurant.
So head to the beach and learn how to surf. It’s a great way to spend a summer day and a wonderful sport which captures the California spirit.
