Whether you’re looking for fresh garden to table recipes or stocking up on your weekly fruits and veggie haul, here are a few local farmers markets and farms to add to your jaunt, just a hop away from Mayacama:
Tierra Vegetable is a diversified 20-acre family farm in Santa Rosa that grows hundreds of different varieties of vegetables and some fruits in a sustainable manner. At the Tierra Vegetables Farm Stand, located inside the Big White Barn on the farm, they sell only locally grown and locally produced fruits and vegetables that are freshly picked, flavorful and nutritious, and of the highest quality possible.
Santa Rosa Original Certified Farmers Market was among the first in the state to become a certified market. The market prides itself on showcasing the diversity of Sonoma County. Conveniently located at the nearby Wells Fargo Center for the Arts with easy parking and a chance to chat with the certified farmers and vendors directly, this market is open year-round two days each week (Saturdays and Wednesdays from 8:30am – 1pm) rain or shine!
Healdsburg Farmers’ Market has been trucking fresh, seasonal and sustainably-grown produce to town from farms since 1978. The Saturday market runs May – November from 9am to Noon at North and Vine Streets, just one block west of the Plaza. The Wednesday market runs 3:30pm – 6pm from June – October at Purity/Cerri Lot on North Street between Grove Street and Foss Street (across the street from the parking lot where the Saturday Market is held).
Windsor Certified Farmers Market features delicious Recipes Fresh From The Farm. The market is located in the Heart of Windsor on the Town Green at 701 McClelland Drive at Market Street. It is open Sundays from 10-1pm mid-April to mid-December and Thursday nights from 5-8pm mid-June through August.
Green String Farm is a sustainable farm in Petaluma that is focused on aiding natural processes to grow healthy and happy fruits and vegetables. The Farm Store is open every day from 10-5pm. You can also tour the farm to see the grounds, learn about soil improvement and responsible land stewardship. Public farm tours are hosted the first Saturday of every month at 12 noon, weather permitting.
Santa Rosa Community Farmers’ Market at the Veterans Building was voted best in Sonoma County by the Press Democrat readers. The market is located at 1351 Maple Ave, Santa Rosa (across from the fairgrounds). This market is open Saturdays from 8:30am to 1pm and Wednesdays from 9am to 1pm – rain or shine!
