Meet Rebekah Reynoso, Events Manager at Mayacama

Mayacama is the quintessential Wine Country experience, offering its members unparalleled services, amenities and events.  This effort is lead by the experienced team of Mayacama professionals. One team member with a passion for gatherings and festivities is Rebekah Reynoso, Events Manager at Mayacama. We recently asked Rebekah to share some insight, as well as some of her local favorites, with us.

Before I was Events Manager for Mayacama….
I have been in the food and beverage industry since I was 16-years-old. I started by working in various restaurants throughout Sonoma County and, since then, have had a passion for the hospitality industry. Now, I have been working at Mayacama Golf Club for 15 years! I love being able to create memorable experiences for our members.

Four reasons Mayacama’s site and location makes for a memorable event venue:
The beautiful olive trees in our courtyard.
The grounds of our golf course. We take great pride in our landscape it has established itself as our most popular backdrop.
Our back terrace that overlooks the grounds of our golf course.
The quietness of our property. As soon as you enter our gates it feels as if you have entered a private world. That reservation is refreshing.

My three favorite annual events held at Mayacama and why:
Patrick’s Day Four Ball – This event is the kick off to the tournament season and sets the tone for the year. It is a sold out event and I enjoy seeing all the players come in their best St. Patrick’s Day attire.
All Vintner Pour – This event is our most popular. We typically have up to 400 people sign up each year. I really enjoy the full set up – all the floral, linen, and décor creates such a memorable atmosphere for our members.
Women’s Member Guest Tournament – I love being able to see the women of Mayacama come out to play a two day tournament. We make it special by including luncheons, receptions, and special gifts for all the players.

What do you find is the most compelling reason people choose to become part of the Mayacama community?
I think there are a lot of reasons that people choose to become a part of this community. Our golf course, to start, was designed by Jack Nicklaus and intrigues, regardless if you play or not. The social camaraderie – we hold so many special events for our members that offer an opportunity to meet new people. Our community is unique and compelling because we establish relationships with each member. For us, we take pleasure when they associate our club as home.

Locals know best. Share 3 of your favorite Annual Sonoma County events that members and guest’s should attend and why.
Annual DuMOL Wine Tasting – Fun.
Sonoma County Fair – Family.
Barrel Tasting – Memorable.

Current Addiction:
I would say my phone. All of my children are grown up and as a mom that is our number one source of communication.

5 things I can’t live without:
My friends, family, phone, wine, and coffee!

Best part of my job:
I love my team. I have a very dedicated crew that shows up to every event ready to work. They are self-motivated and dependable. They make event we have, member or private, run seamlessly.

Next spot on my travel itinerary:
Hawaii

Thanks for sharing, Rebekah, and for being part of the Mayacama team.

Meet Brian Hill, Front Office Lead at Mayacama

Mayacama is the quintessential Wine Country experience, offering its members unparalleled services.  This effort is lead by the experienced team of Mayacama professionals. One team member with a wealth of local knowledge and passion for the region is Brian Hill, Front Office Lead at Mayacama. We recently asked Brian to share some insight, as well as some of his local favorites, with us.

What do you find is the most compelling reason people choose to become part of the Mayacama community?

The most compelling reason I feel people want to be a part of this community is the people. Everyone here is here because they want to be; members guests and our employees. That is a big reason why the atmosphere at this club is so good. Everyone is happy and with a good attitude.

Something people may not know about Mayacama is:

Something you may not know about the club is that the land was originally owned by Charles Schultz. We also are in the top 100 of Golf Courses in America!

Favorite spot on the Mayacama course/why:
Favorite spot on the course is the 3rd . The third hole is nothing but great, after playing one and two you walk into a testy par 3 that is no break from the challenge of the start of the course. No matter what set of tees you are playing it is a challenge ranging from 129 to 178 yards. The carry is intimidating and you have to be able to trust your swing and your club selection in order to score on that hole. If confidence is an issue, a high number will more than likely be a result. It’s a signature golf hole and it’s also one of my favorites because I have my one and only hole in 1 on this hole!!

Favorite item on Chef Pikey’s menu:
The great thing about Mayacama, is that our Chef is constantly changing out menu throughout the seasons. I have been fortunate enough to try many amazing dishes throughout my time here. My favorite item is the cheeseburger – which is luckily, almost always on the menu. It’s thick, juicy and always cooked to the perfect temperature.

Favorite annual event at Mayacama/why:
My favorite annual event here at Mayacama would have to be our Easter Sunday festivities. Seeing the families all together, the kids happy and playing everywhere makes for a fantastic event. Our activities team hides around 5000 eggs for all the kids on the driving range and I think it takes the kids about 3 minutes to get them all!  There is also a beautiful brunch, a petting zoo and many activities for the kids in our courtyard.

Best spot to catch the sunset at Mayacama:
Our property consists of over 600 acres, so I feel like wherever you are the sunset is bound to be a special. But, my favorite place would be on the back terrace. The terrace faces a couple of holes on the course, and when the sun goes down it really makes me recognize the beauty of where I work.

Best month to visit/why:
The best month would have to be May. Every April, we go through an aeration which prepares our golf course for the upcoming season and is perfect by May! We host our All Vintner Pour , the second week of May, and it is our biggest event yet. 300 people come to the Pour that features all of our Vintner Members pouring their best wines! Also My favorite tournament, The Match Play Championships, is during this month! May really kick starts all these popular events and signifies the beginning of Summer – bringing out all of our members and their families.

Locals know best. Share 3 of your favorite spots around Sonoma County for members to get on their must visit list:
Valette– A fantastic restaurant in Healdsburg. Have to order the scallops!
32 Winds Winery– Our Vintner Member, Ed Mascarin, owns this boutique winery and the wines are just as fantastic as the property it is on.
Safari West– Safari West is a 400-acre private wildlife preserve located just 25 min from Mayacama. The selection of wildlife emphasizes species native to Africa, including giraffes, rhinoceros, cheetahs, and numerous species of birds. It is a fun place for the family to see animals, have a tour around the facility in a jeep, and even enjoy a nice stay on the property!

Lightning-round

If I wasn’t working you’d find me at: home with wife, son Brayden, daughter Ava while watching the Warriors or Giants!

5 things I can’t live without:  Kids (Brayden & Ava), Wife (Lisa), sports, my bed, and beer

Best part of my job: Co-Workers

Next spot on my travel itinerary: Hawaii

Meet Tim Hoffman, Director of Sales at Mayacama

Membership in a Private Residence Club, especially one of the quality of Mayacama, offers many benefits beyond those typical of second home ownership. At Mayacama, every residence is meticulously maintained and managed, removing all of the property management, maintenance and worries associated with second home ownership. Your only job as a Mayacama Member is to relax and enjoy your stay.

Tim Hoffman, Director of Sales at Mayacama, helps members obtain their goal of residential membership.  He recently took time to answer a few questions for us.

What was life like before becoming Director of Sales?
Before my business life, I was fortunate to travel the world representing my country through sport. For 13 years, I traveled internationally as a member of the US National Speed Skating Team, competing in many World Cups and World Championships, and was blessed to have the ability early in my career to become National Champion 4 times…prior to arthritis setting in and wheels falling off 😉 After retiring, I moved into sales, both residential and development real estate sales in Park City, UT. With neither my, or myself, skiing anymore…we moved to wine country to escape the winters, where I was fortunate to find a career here at Mayacama!

What do you find is the most compelling reason people choose to become part of the Mayacama community?
Each individual or family has something inherently unique that compels them to join. Notwithstanding the amazing beauty and ambiance of the topography and architectural design of Mayacama…when it comes down to it, the energy and the sense of belonging that our members and staff exude is perhaps the most compelling of all.

The 3 things that owners in the Residence Club are most surprised to discover at Mayacama are:
(1) The feeling that you are part of a family every time you visit. With members coming from everywhere across the country, Mayacama has become a second family for many!
(2) Although it sounds boring…Consistency. The way the club is managed, the food service and quality, the course maintenance and experience, etc… You know that every visit to Mayacama will be an extraordinary experience.
(3) Mayacama is not only for adults…our childrens’ programming is truly second to none which evidenced by this past Easter at the club!

3 favorite features of the Mayacama Villas: The Mayacama Villas will be the perfect meld between our Private Residence Club Membership and our Estate Home Ownership. Whereas there are many exciting benefits of Villa ownership, my 3 favorite features would be (1) the ever popular yet tastefully redesigned Harvest Room (2) True owner use flexibility and control in deciding when they will stay in their villa and when they will lease their villa back to the club (3) the ability to have a guarantee that 100% of the Villa costs (including property tax, utilities, insurance, reserves, maintenance, etc…) will be covered.

Locals know best. Describe a few destinations in Sonoma County that you’d recommend to guests.
Sonoma wine country has so much to offer from the Charles Shultz museum, to amazing wine tastings, to hiking trails or biking our country roads, or to visiting the coast. Over time, I believe members and guests should take the opportunity to visit as much of the area as they can. Our Vintner Members have some of the finest wineries around to visit, Healdsburg continues to offer more and more boutique shops, restaurants and tastings rooms, Safari West is an experience hard to find anywhere stateside. With the coming expansion the our local airport, and the additional airlines lining up to offer flights to and from…Sonoma County just beginning to take off!

Now for the Lightning Round.

Red or White: Red

Favorite spot on the Mayacama course: 15 tee box…that view is something else!

5 things I can’t live without: That’s easy…My wife, family & friends, traveling with any or all of them, BBQing on a warm summer night (or on cold blistery night for that matter)

Best part of my job: The ability to introduce and welcome many new Members to one of the finest private clubs in the world.

Next spot on my travel itinerary: a few of us old teammates are planning a trip through Europe, to tour our families around the cities and towns we competed in most often…cant wait! But before then…a quick trip to Wisconsin for a family reunion.

Thanks for taking the time out of busy schedule Tim!

5 Sonoma County Hiking Spots

It’s springtime and you have the urge to explore the great outdoors. Sonoma County has a variety of open space trails, perfect for hiking. We’ve listed a few favorites throughout the region and ranked them by difficulty.  So lace up those walking shoes or hiking boots and explore all that Wine Country has to offer.

Crane Creek Regional Park – Easy
Crane Creek Regional Park features rolling grasslands and beautiful stands of oaks on 128 acres east of Rohnert Park. Ridges offer sweeping views of the countryside and Rohnert Park, and meadows are covered with wild poppies in spring. The park has 3.5 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding and an 18-hole disc golf course.  The trails cover rolling terrain, with the easiest trails running parallel to Crane Creek beneath mature oaks. For a little bit more exertion, the Fiddleneck and Hawk Ridge trails offer excellent views from the top of the hill.

Gualala Point Regional Park – Easy
This spacious 195-acre park has open meadows mixed with coastal forest. The park contains a campground, trail system, coastal vistas, and sandy beaches. The park is located adjacent to the Gualala River, which offers limited seasonal fishing. Please check all current regulations. Gualala Point Regional Park offers 2.9 miles of coastal trail along bluffs, through meadows, and above the Gualala River. Gualala Point Park is popular with day hikers and picnickers.

Taylor Mountain Regional Park and Open Space Preserve – Moderate
Taylor Mountain Regional Park & Open Space Preserve is a prominent Santa Rosa landmark, providing hikers with panoramic views of the city and distant peaks. The park’s 1,100 acres include sweeping grasslands, oak woodlands, several creeks and habitat for a variety of wildlife. The park boasts 5.5 miles of unpaved trails. The Eastern Trail is the most difficult, with a steep, 1,000-foot ascent to near the top of the mountain.  The Western Trail offers a challenging yet more gradual climb up the mountain, connecting to the last leg of the Eastern Trail for the steep climb to the top.  Both the Eastern and Western Trails offer sweeping views of Santa Rosa and beyond.

Shiloh Ranch Regional Park – Challenging
The 850-acre park in east Windsor has nearly 8 miles of trails for hiking, bicycle and horseback riding. Shiloh Ranch is a rugged landscape in the foothills of the Mayacamas Mountains. The park includes oak woodlands, forests of mixed evergreens, ridges with sweeping views of the Santa Rosa Plain, canyons, rolling hills, a shaded creek and a pond. The loop trail system allows hikers to create routes of varying lengths and intensity.  Shiloh is the only Regional Park that does not allow dogs on trails, although they are welcome in the group picnic area. The trail system allows users to create several loop options of varying length.

Trione-Annadel State Park – Varying
The park offers miles of trails for hiking and has more than 5,500 acres of rolling hills, seasonal streams, meadows and woodlands. Hikers can choose among more than 40 miles of trails. Elevation gains and degree of difficulty vary with each trail.  For wildflower lovers, Trione-Annadel State Park offers a great variety of flowers from early Spring until early Summer, especially on a hike around Lake Ilsanjo. The best months to see the park’s wildflowers are April and May. Dogs are not allowed on trails. Dogs are allowed on a leash under your control only on Channel Drive (a paved road) within the park.

So get out there, enjoy this weather and experience all that Wine Country has to offer!
