Located a short 18 miles north of Healdsburg the small community of Cloverdale is often overlooked but still boasts charm and character, offering a nice microadventure for you and your family to enjoy.

9:00 – Arrive in Downtown Cloverdale
Head to Plank Coffee (227 N Cloverdale Blvd) for your favorite caffeinated beverage and baked good to start your day.  Get cozy in one of the large leather chairs and take some time to enjoy your beverage and unwind in a town known for its relaxed and casual attitude.  One Facebook reviewer had this to say about Plank Coffee: ‘The baristas and staff who take my orders are always so welcoming and friendly. Great service, delicious pastries and the best organic coffee and teas. If you like cinnamon, must try the Cinnabang coffee drink!’

10:30 – 12:00 – Explore the Retail Scene
Specializing in one-of-a-kind vintage industrial and mid-century pieces, 14feet. (229 N Cloverdale Blvd) is a sophisticated and elegant home and gift store where you will find a perfect gift for friends, family or even yourself.  They offer relaxing bath and body products as well as home decor items, furniture and kitchen items too.  Enjoy a wonderfully curated retail experience at this eclectic shop.  Nearby Bolt Fabric + Home (219 N Cloverdale Blvd) offers an exciting mix of home decor to blend with high quality quilting fabrics adding a dimension that few fabric stores can boast.

12:00 – 5:00 – Experience Cloverdale
Explore the Past. Explore Cloverdale’s history at the Gould-Shaw House Museum, an authentic 1870s Gothic Revival Cottage, which is on the National Register of Historic Places.  The adjacent 2,000-square-foot History Center houses a vast artifact collection of the Cloverdale Historical Society.

Experience the Art. Cloverdale, in partnership with nearby Geyserville, has created a trail of high quality outdoor sculptures to peruse. New sculptures are installed each May, and stay in place for a year, when the next set of artworks is put in place.  A total of 34 sculptures are in place for 2016-17.

Taste the Region.  Cloverdale makes a great start for visiting unique tasting rooms in the nearby Alexander and Dry Creek valleys. Plan your trip with a little help from Sonomacounty.com.

Enjoy the Thrill.  For those seeking the ultimate outdoor experience, head to NorCal Skydiving  and experience the adventure of a lifetime in one of the most beautiful places in the world. When you jump from more than two miles up, you’ll be falling at 120 mph toward the Russian River which snakes through the Alexander Valley… an unforgettable experience!

5:00 – 7:00 – Dinner in Town
Head back into town and experience some great dining options in this small town packed with so much charm. One recommendation is Savvy on First. Try the Buttermilk Fried Chicken, with Potato Salad and Pickled Vegetables or the Grilled Spiced Pork Tenderloin, with Ancho BBQ Sauce, White Bean Garlic Puree and Summer Vegetable Succotash. If you are craving Italian, head to Piacére. Try the Gnocchi “Piacére”, House potato ‘dumplings’ in a fresh tomato and light cream sauce combined, or the Chicken Veneziana, Breast of chicken with artichoke and mushrooms in a light marsala sauce. If you find yourself with a hearty appetite after your eventful day,  stop by Hamburger Ranch & Bar-B-Que and try the Baby Back Ribs or Brisket Plate.  You won’t be disappointed.

All in all, a wonderful day full of adventure the whole family will enjoy.  Happy travels!

Sonoma Wine Country Weekend Returns September 2-4

If you find yourself looking for local, Labor Day weekend entertainment, look no further than the Sonoma Wine Country Weekend.  Sonoma Wine Country Weekend is Sonoma County’s signature charity event, bringing together over 200 of Sonoma’s top winemakers and growers, along with a collection of the area’s best chefs, all for a great cause. Sonoma Wine Country Weekend is produced by the Sonoma County Vintners and the Sonoma Valley Vintners & Growers Foundation and all proceeds benefit local Sonoma charities. To date, Sonoma Wine Country Weekend has raised over $20 million for charities that benefit students, children, farm workers and people in need in Sonoma County communities.

Connect Wine County style.  Immerse yourself in the Wine Country culture, eliminating the distance between yourself and the people who grow and make some of the world’s most amazing wine and food.  The festivities begin on September 2 and continue for three delicious days as attendees get up close and personal with the full bounty of flavors that Sonoma County has to offer. Mingle with winegrowers, winemakers and chefs, from pioneers to up-and-comers. Sonoma Wine Country Weekend has been named one of America’s top three wine charity fundraisers and is quite possibly the most fun you’ll ever have while supporting the local community.

The 3-day weekend will have multiple events throughout the region, from starlight dining to harvest wine auctions, as well as winemaker lunches, dinner and barbecues.  Kick off your Friday night with an elegant and unforgettable night under the stars at Francis Ford Coppola Winery in Alexander Valley or spend your Saturday in Healdsburg, nestled among the rolling hills and towering redwoods, as over 200 wineries pour literally thousands of wines and over 60 local chefs concoct their most perfect pairings at beautiful MacMurray Estate Vineyards.
