It’s great to be a kid at Mayacama, where we offer an array of area and on-site adventures for our youngest Members. In addition to traditional adventures, there are also special events showcasing crafts from glass fusion workshops, sculpture classes and science experiments. Year-round, we’re always looking for new ways to create enjoyable activities which will become unforgettable memories for the little ones.
We recently had a chance to chat with Mayacama’s Activities Director, Melinda Murray, to gain some personal and professional insight.

What do you find is the most compelling reason people choose to become part of Mayacama?
Over the last seven years of working at Mayacama, I have learned that one of the biggest pulls for our members, especially those with children, is that the club is so kid friendly. With our newly renovated play room, kids’ nights during most club events, childcare offered at anytime, our extensive summer camp schedule, and year round activity options, our members feel comfortable knowing that their children will have as much fun as they will during their stay.
What is the most popular family-friendly event at Mayacama:
Our biggest event by far for the whole family is our Easter celebration we hold every year on Easter Sunday. We fill the courtyard with crafts, cookie decorating, games, a balloon artist, cartoonist, baby animal petting zoo, and our very own Easter Bunny to take pictures with. We also have a 5,000 egg hunt that always gets the kids excited. Other noteworthy events at the club are our Mothers day brunch with a gift craft option for the children, Gingerbread house decorating at the Christmas party, and the Halloween carnival I am very excited to be bringing back this year.
Outside of Mayacama, what are 3 of your favorite spots to take kids?
I love keeping the kids active and letting them have the freedom to run around, so one of my top spots to take children is Rebounderz in Rohnert Park. It is an indoor trampoline park with an arcade and huge jungle gym for the kids to explore.
The Charles Schulz museum and Snoopy’s Ice Arena are other great spots to take kids of all ages. The museum encourage creativity with a cartoon classes offered and the history of one of our famous Sonoma County residents, while the ice rink lets the kids release some energy and play.
My other favorite spot to take the kids is Glass Fusion and Pottery Too in Sebastopol where the children are able to showcase their creative side and make beautiful and one of a kind art pieces.
What are your favorite Sonoma County annual events that are kid-friendly?
The Sonoma County Fair is a great place to take children of all ages with the rides, shows, food, and attractions that always guarantee a good time. There are also many local children theater productions and child friendly shows that run throughout the year. These are great to go to because I love when seeing a show with a child inspires their inner performer.
What’s new at Mayacama?
Last year we renovated the clubhouse kids room by opening up all the walls and added games, big screen TV’s, a ping pong table, and shuffle board table, making it a family friendly location to spend some quality time in.
One of the additions to the activities schedule I am most excited about is the Halloween Carnival we will be bringing back this year. With games, crafts, haunted carriage rides, and entertainment galore, I am hoping this event will become as popular as the Easter Celebration.
